from Our Souls at Work

In the workplace, decision-making is what lets us “make something happen.”…It is not optional to give people freedom to make decisions, nor is it optional for leaders who are for followers of Christ to refrain from making decisions. It is necessary for the fulfillment of the stewardship commission.

You have to free your subordinates to make decisions, but you also have to protect them from senior management. It’s difficult, but not impossible, to do from the position a “lower” position.
